Speaking in church

Things are going well here! School is definitely keeping me busy. I was very happy for the weekend to come. Yesterday I went to the USU vs WSU hockey game. It was pretty good - especially because we won! Today I spent most of the day in out apartment but I was able to go to the Logan temple. That was so great! Then afterwards I went to the USU vs SJSU Basketball game - we also won that! So great! Also last week I was called as the Relief Society Meeting Coordinator - and I am speaking in church tomorrow. :) So since most of you won't have the opportunity to hear me talk I thought I would post my notes for my talk and you can check out the scriptures :) This week in the Book of Mormon Challenge we read 2 Nephi Chapters 8-30, for my talk I choose anything from these chapters to speak on. I decided to talk on Coming to Christ.

Introduction about me – served mission

Why did the prophets write the Book of Mormon? (Nephi)

2 Nephi 25:23, 26 (p99)

23 For we labor diligently to write, to apersuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by bgrace that we are saved, after all we can cdo.

26 And we atalk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we bprophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our cchildren may know to what source they may look for a dremission of their sins.

One of my favorite scriptures about Jesus Christ within these Scriptures: 2 Nephi 9:21-23, 45 (Jacob speaking) (whole chapter mainly about Plan of salvation) (p74)

21 And he cometh into the world that he may asave all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the bpains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of cAdam. 22 And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day. 23 And he commandeth all men that they must arepent, and be bbaptized in his name, having perfect cfaith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.

45 O, my beloved brethren, turn away from your sins; shake off the achains of him that would bind you fast; come unto that God who is the brock of your salvation.

I found these quotes and wanted to share them too:

“Come unto Me” By Elder Jeffrey R. Holland 1998 April Ensign (whole talk)

I don’t know what things may be troubling you personally, but… I would be surprised if someone somewhere weren’t troubled by a transgression or the temptation of transgression. To you, wherever you may be, I say, Come unto him and lay down your burden. Let him lift the load. Let him give peace to your soul. Nothing in this world is more burdensome than sin—it is the heaviest cross men and women ever bear.

The world around us is an increasingly hostile and sinful place. Occasionally that splashes onto us, and perhaps, in the case of a few of you, it may be nearly drowning you. To anyone struggling under the burden of sin, I say again with the Prophet Joseph that God has “a forgiving disposition” (Lectures on Faith, 42). You can change. You can be helped. You can be made whole—whatever the problem. All he asks is that you walk away from the darkness and come into the light, his light, with meekness and lowliness of heart. That is at the heart of the gospel. That is the very center of our message. That is the beauty of redemption. Christ has “borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows,” Isaiah declared, “and with his stripes we are healed”—if we want to be (Isa. 53:4–5; see also Mosiah 14:4–5).

“For anyone seeking the courage to repent and change, I remind you that the Church is not a monastery for the isolation of perfect people. It is more like a hospital provided for those who wish to get well. Do whatever you have to do to come into the fold and be blessed. For some of you that is simply to live with greater faith, to believe more. For some of you it does mean to repent—right here. Today. For some of you it means to be baptized and come into the body and fellowship of Christ. For virtually all of us it means to live more by the promptings and promises of the Holy Ghost and to “press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men.”

It is simple to follow Jesus Christ. Keep Although we may not feel it is easy.

Ether 12:27 27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

Eter pasal 12 ayat 27 (ms 593)

Scriptures/Kitab Suci

Today on my 1 month home from the mission mark, I wanted to share some scriptures I have read lately that I like a lot and have been thinking about:

1 Nephi 20:10
1 Nephi 21: 15-16
2 Nephi 1:15
2 Nephi 2 I love this chapter as it explains more about the Plan of Salvation, Adam and Eve in the Garden and why we need our Saviour Jesus Christ. I like the explanation of why there needs to be opposition in all things also
2 Nephi 4:16
2 Nephi 4:17-35 The Psalm of Nephi. Nephi - a Prophet reflects on his weaknesses and then resolved in trusting the Lord. I love the insights we can gain here and follow his example

Week 2/ Minggu 2

It's amazing how fast the time goes. I successfully made it through the first week of school and then had a fun weekend back down in Ogden. My cousins and I got together and caught up. Too fun. :)

Today when I went to catch the bus to campus, it was snowing and there was already a couple of inches of snow on the ground. I think I am finally getting used to it now. It is really pretty but I am still really cold!

My Institute class was really good again today. We talked about Judgement. When to judge, when not to judge. Brother Gentry showed us this talk by Elder Dallin H Oaks: "Judge Not and Judging"

Book of Mormon Challange

So.. day two of the semester. I can't believe I am here going to class. And although I thought I'd be okay with the weather, every time I go outside I wish I was back in Malaysia more. Nevermind. Summer will be here soon enough. (I hope!!)

So Church was good on Sunday. I had to introduce myself many many times but I also found a few people who I knew from the last time I lived here. So that was kind of cool. One of my favorite things about Sunday was the Book of Mormon Challenge our Bishopric gave us - to read the entire Book of Mormon by the end of the semester. They gave us a schedule to follow if we desired. I was way excited for this because I was on my third reading of the Book of Mormon since I entered the field but had slowed down the pace of my reading. I love reading the Book of Mormon from beginning to end so I can have all of the stories in context a little more.

Today I had my Institute class: The Parables of Jesus. This class is going to be really good, I can tell already. Today our teacher mentioned that "Parables are designed for the conscience not the mind". I always wish I understood the parables more so, here's my chance! He also quoted two talks that I thought were really good "Be Your Best Self" by President Thomas S. Monson and "Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart" by President James E. Faust. I would suggest reading them. The parts he quoted in class were about the value of learning lessons from the scriptures and applying the things we learn.

He also quoted Matthew 23:24 as our introduction to the study of Parables. The meaning of this verse is those who are so careful to appear unto men that they would not commit the least sin, and yet they really transgress the whole law.

He also quoted "Jesus the Christ" by James E. Talmage where he talks about why parables were used by the Savior to teach truths:
"There is plainly shown an element of mercy in the parabolic mode of instruction adopted by our Lord under the conditions prevailing at the time. He had always taught in explicit declaration, such as required no interpretation, many among His hearers would have come under condemnation, inasmuch as they were too weak in faith and unprepared in heart to break the bonds of traditionalism and the prejudice engendered by sin, so as to accept and obey the saving word. Their inability to comprehend the requirements of the gospel would in righteous measure give Mercy some claim upon them, while had they rejected the truth with full understanding, stern Justice would surely demand their condemnation"

I am excited for our next class!

I encourage everyone to follow the Book of Mormon challenge, especially if you haven't read it cover to cover in a while.

Day 1: Introduction
Day 2: 1 Nephi chapters 1 and 2
Day 3: 1 Nephi chapters 3-5
Day 4: 1 Nephi chapters 6-8
Day 5: 1 Nephi chapters 9-11
Day 6: 1 Nephi chapters 12-13
Day 7: 1 Nephi chapters 14-15

(If you want to keep time with me, today is day 2)

One of my favorite scriptures from today's reading is: 1 Nephi chapter 2:16 "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the amysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did bvisit me, and did csoften my heart that I did dbelieve all the words which had been spoken by my efather; wherefore, I did not frebel against him like unto my brothers."

I love this verse because, it wasn't easy for Nephi to accept God's commandment at first, but instead of rebelling, he prayed and asked the Lord to soften his heart. The spirit can help us change our desires and help us to become more Christlike.

Well I rambled on for a long time, but I am so grateful for this opportunity I have to study now - both in Institute and my other University classes.

Have a fantastic day!

Hari 1: Baca Asal Usul
Hari 2: 1 Nefi pasal 1 dan 2
Hari 3: 1 Nefi chapters 3-5
Hari 4: 1 Nefi chapters 6-8
Hari 5: 1 Nefi chapters 9-11
Hari 6: 1 Nefi chapters 12-13
Hari 7: 1 Nefi chapters 14-15

Selamat malam!

I didn't think it was possible...

So I didn't think it was possible, but Logan is colder and dryer than Ogden. I have to put on lotion and chaptstick every five minutes. Anyone have an extra ticket back to Malaysia??? I'll take it.

On the upside, I got all moved into my new apt. just fine. My new roommates, although all a couple years younger are really cute girls and have been really nice. So happy lah!

Well tomorrow school begins, let's see it's been almost 3 years since I have been up here. I can't believe how fast the time went. But it's time to get going again. Tomorrow I have two of my Interior Design classes and I'll be stopping by the Honors Office to catch up with everyone there. Also I'll be on the lookout for a job and plan to make a pitstop at the gym. I've decided to skip out on the new year's resolutions this year and set goals instead. One of them is to go to the gym... I think that is a really good goal especially as now I don't ride a bike everyday. I miss that.

**Alma 5**

Saya merasa gembira lah!

Jadi esok hari saya berulang belajar lagi.

The Semester Starts in two days...

Well the last two weeks have been an adventure. I arrived home from my mission the 23rd of Dec and was released Christmas Eve morning. The next few days were crazy hectic as my brother and I bounced back and forth between the two sides of the family. It was great that our Dad could come of from AZ. I am glad that we were kept very busy because in the quiet moments all I can do is think about and miss mission life. On the up-side, I've been able to go to the temple 3 times since I've been back and that has been fantastic.

So over the last two weeks, we had a crazy Christmas, Happy New Year and now I'm off to school again at USU. I am going to continue my study of Interior Design. :) Life is good. I am moving up to Logan today. Back to the place I stayed at before. All of my housemates are 2 to 3 years younger than me but that should keep things interesting. :)

Well in just a couple of hours I will be up in Logan but, still have a little packing to do.... so until later! xoxo

Bertemu baru! xoxo
