Beginning of Dreams

I survived the week! It has been quite the accomplishment as I have been fighting a cold since Monday, and all the tests and things were really stressing me out! I have been pretty good about managing my stress, but this week I was super worried about getting everything done. I shouldn't have worried so much, the projects that were due this week were pushed back until next week. Next week will be pretty busy too but there should be less studying involved.

Let me just say that I love Pandora.com. I recently made a Daniel Bedingfield station - lots of fun techno-remix songs. I also made a Boyce Avenue station. It has lots of Boyce Avenue songs and John Mayer. It's pretty sweet. I love that I can have tons of good songs, all the time - a good mix of new songs, older songs and artists I have never heard of. ^_^ - And even throw in a Celtic Thunder and John Schmit stations!

So, now time to explain the hat at the top of my post. If you don't know, it's from Arizona State University. In an effort to keep the spirit of the lecture I went to last night, after I took my last test I decided to take a few minutes and look and see what kind of Master's programs I could find. One that impressed me right away is the Healthcare and Healing Environments (MSD) Program at ASU. The description is pretty awesome - "The concentration in health care and healing environments is focused on factors that impact the design and planning of health care facilities and healing environments, especially the integration of evidence-based design, sustainable science and best practices benchmarks with planning healthcare facilities. This multidisciplinary program integrates the principles of medical and clinical innovations, business administration, interior architecture, human health services, communication studies, architecture and behavioral and engineering sciences. Students in this program will be mentored by local health care design consultants, teaming with nursing students, working directly with real clients and corresponding with forward-thinking health care research centers."

Over the summer I worked at the VA hospital in Salt Lake. I loved it so much! It was such a great experience for me. For me, the Healthcare division of Interior Design is really rewarding and exciting. I feel that it really makes a difference in other people's lives. So when I found this program at ASU I was stoked! I had considered going to College in Arizona when I was in high school. I was accepted to the Art Center and Design College in Tucson but turned it down to go to USU - which was the best decision. I am SO glad that I go to USU. I love Logan, and the Interior Design Program here is fantastic. I will keep looking for the right Master's program for me, I still have a little while before I graduate. But I will definitely keep ASU in mind. :) I have always loved Arizona, such a unique beauty - and hot! Love it.

"Make No Little Plans. They Have No Magic to Stir Men's Blood"

So in an effort to appease the class after a difficult test, my Business Law and Ethics teacher made a SAEL event an option for extra credit. I did alright on the test, but I figured that I would go anyway. The event was a presentation on "Maximizing Your Unique Potential" by Craig Donaldson. It was pretty awesome. I alway love a good motivational speaker to get focused on goal setting and helping me realizing that I can and should be reaching higher.

He started off with a video clip where Les Brown talks about why people fail in life. He said "What we do and what we accomplish in life is only the tip of the ice burg of what we could accomplish." Later he said "Some people fail in life not because they aim to high and miss but because they aim too low and hit, or they don't aim at all."

Another good quote from the talk was by Devere Harris "Where you end up in life is bounded by two things. You will never end up higher than your dreams, and you will never end up lower than your standards."

He suggested a book to us: "Success is a Choice" by Rick Pitino.
I agree that so many things in life come down to our choices. Although it is true that things can happen to us that are out of our control, whether we succeed or fail is up to us. Our goals, our vision, our standards and our choices will effect how our lives turn out.

"If it is to be . . . it is up to me" - I am responsible for my life.

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element" - Johan Von Goethe

“Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life,
or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.”
                                    -David Copperfield, by Charles Dickens

"Compared to what we ought to be, we are only half awake. We make use of a small part of our physical and metal resources" - William James

"Winning individuals do not leave the development of their potential to chance. They pursue it systematically and look forward." - John Gardner

He made another good point: If you don't make your life turn out the way you want it to, who will?
-What is the life that you have imagined for yourself?

"I have learned this... that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. - Henry David Thoreau

I am really glad that I went (and no, not just because I got free pizza). I have been thinking about my goals lately and what I want to accomplish. I have some thoughts of going after a Master's once I graduate, and a vague idea of where I want to be working. Once I get finished with these midterms I will take a few minutes and really think about the direction I want my life to go. So exciting!

Well I'd better get back to studying. I want to do even better on this test than the last one :)

Love all, trust a few. Do wrong to none.

So this week is a crazy one. It seems with my major that I rarely have midterm tests at the same time as everyone else - if I have tests at all. Well my midterm week has finally come. Thankfully one of the parts of the Spa project that was supposed to be due tomorrow along with the Midterm in Systems, has been moved to Monday. That takes my stress level down a notch :)

So it's a crazy week until Friday. I am staying up here for the day on Friday because that night is the Presentation at the Logan Tabernacle about how the Church is making some of it's chapels more Sustainable - or something like that. But it doesn't start until 7pm. Should be interesting. Then I'll head down to Ogden, I have an Eye Doctor Appt. on Saturday so we'll see how that goes, I haven't had my eyes checked since right before I left on my mission. Maybe new glasses will be in order.

Anyway, my inspiration for posting right was the title quote: "Love all, trust a few. Do wrong to none." I have seen that quote pop up a lot lately and just now I saw a girl wearing a t-shirt with that quote on it so I had to google it and find out what it was from: it was written by William Shakespeare, "All's Well That Ends Well", Act 1 Scene 1. So there you go. Yay for Shakespeare! I think my favorites are Much Ado About Nothing and The Merchant of Venice. Although I do also enjoy Macbeth and Hamlet - I saw a performance of Hamlet by a group of Actors from The Royal Shakespeare Company. They did an awesome job!

Well I hope that you have a fantastic day.. as for me, I am going back to studying!

That was fast!

You know it has been too long since your last post when  you almost forget your own blog website address. I can't believe it has almost been a month since I last blogged! Not that I have a lot of faithful followers to keep updated, but still I like to blog and I need to be better about it! Although, I have been pretty good about keeping my pictures updated in Facebook, so that's something I guess.

Well the past month has been fabulous! So many good experiences and lots of laughs!

I think I will start with Conference Weekend. I went down to Payson to stay with my darling cousin. I went down on Thursday night after my last class and then Friday I went to school with her. That was so fun! I got to teach her kids a bit about Malaysia which I always enjoy! Then our Grandparents came down and we all went out to dinner. Then I left them and went to my Mission Reunion. It was AWESOME! I saw so many old companions and friends. A lot of the couples were there and of course, my first Mission President and his wife. It was fantastic. Haha we stayed there 'til about 11:30pm just talking and taking pictures.

The rest of the weekend I stayed with my cousin, we watched Conference, played games, and watched North & South - a fabulous mini series done by BBC.

The next weekend I went down to Provo Saturday night. We had a 'Sisters' dinner. I love those girls! Then I went to church with my cousin and then back up to Ogden. I spent the night there because I had a dermatologist appointment Monday morning.

The next week went by very fast, it was our Fall break so I only had three days of class. My cousin's school was also on Fall break so she came up to Logan to stay with me :) I took her out to Firehouse Pizza. It was so delicious! Then we watched Wives & Daughters - also done by BBC. On Saturday we finished Wives & Daughters then my cousin was gracious enough to come to the computer lab with me so I could finish up my Photoshop homework. Afterwards we went to Aggie Ice Cream :) We each got a scoop of Praline Pecan and just to be festive - a scoop of the orange oreo. Then I gave her a tour of campus :) It was such a beautiful day! Then we took a drive up Logan canyon. Sardine and Logan canyons are gorgeous this time of year. :)

We ended the night with home made Enchiladas and Much Ado About Nothing. If you couldn't guess, we were on a British Accent - Drama - Romance kick over the weekend and it was fabulous. ^_^

That Sunday was great too, we went to my church here and then drove to Ogden for an extended family dinner :)
